LOUVRE MUSEUM, PARIS

THE LOUVRE MUSEM IS A HISTORIC MONUMENT AND IS THE MOST VISITED MUSEUM IN THE WORLD. THE MUSEUM IS HOUSED IN THE LOUVRE PALACE WHICH WAS BUILT IN THE 12TH CENTURY. IT WAS OPENED AS A MUSEUM ON 10TH AUGUST 1793. THE PYRAMID WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1984. THE PYRAMID AND UNDERGROUND LOBBY BENEATH IT WERE CREATED TO ALLOW FOR THE IMMENSE NUMBER OF VISITORS, WHICH THE LOUVRES ORIGINAL MAIN ENTRANCE COULD NO LONGER HANDLE. THE CONTRASTING ARCHITECTURAL STYLES OF THIS CLASSICAL AND ULTRA MODERN MONUMENT HAVE MADE THIS A CONTROVERSIAL YET MAGNIFICENT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE.
